Our Days Are Numbered

Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom”

Against all evidence to the contrary, we grow up thinking we are invincible. There is something deep in the human soul—something placed there by GOD who created us for eternity—that tells us life is endless.  It is, but there is a substantial difference between the life we live now and the life we live in eternity. They overlap to some degree, (in it, but not of it) but in only one can we bear fruit for the other. What I am saying is, that what/who we choose today can have everlasting consequences—we can invest in the treasures of the Kingdom of God if we will seize the time by standing firm—by trusting, by resting, abiding, and awaiting the breath of the Spirt to flow through the hidden channels of HIS Love.

So many lives end in regret over this revelation.  Many of us let our days pass by in a survival mode mentality, or in entertainment mode, of self-preservation mode—holding on and grabbling a hold of everything transient—never aligning such concerns with the eternal truth and fruit that matter more.  We are to plant so that our FATHER in Heaven may reap and reward. In order to sow effectively, we must sow by Spirit and Truth; with a clear awareness that the time to plant is extremely short.  The window of opportunity for fruit bearing is narrow indeed, it is as narrow as the Way Himself.

James tells us our “life is as a vapor”, and David agrees: “Each man’s life if but a breath.” In the bigger picture, the eternal picture, we are mere dust attached to glory, we are an extremely small point on a large timeline. By the time we learn what we need to know (in Spirit) and are equipped by the Spirt to serve, I sense we have but just moments left.  But God has given us an awesome privilege—to know HIM through the power of the Holy Spirt. By His Spirit we can accomplish in this fleeting moment of moving from glory-to-glory, the good works prepared in advance for us to walk out of—works of such divine significance that they will have an eternal weight, they will last forever!  GOD can change people’s lives through us. HE can shape our spouse, our children, and our friends through us.  HE can feed the hungry and quench the thirst of the thirsty; HE can cloth the naked, encourage the outcast, redeem the lost, heal the sick, cultivate worshipers, and build HIS Kingdom through us.  But only if we are wise and have numbered our days.

Paul tells us to “redeem the time” because the days are evil. They are fleeting days, slipping by us before we’ve hardly noticed—look at the past five months—not looking or fixing our eyes upon the COVID-19 pandemic, or the government system full of leaven, or the schemes of evil and the demonic realm that bring hatred and separation amongst a realm perishing—but at the time that has been robbed and stolen from underneath us in the dark of night.  We must number our days brethren!  We must live with the eye of our Spirit-man on the limitations of time and the certainly of death all around us.  HIS wisdom fills the hearts of those who can live with such perspective and discernment.

Tony, good and on time word. I do acknowledge the limitations of the “wisdom” of this world as well as the wisdom I have attained through living and studying but the wonderful thing we a Christians have is the mind of Christ and the instruction and power of the Holy Spirit! I see men everyday that do not understand Truth because they won’t accept the truth but are guided by the fleshly nature. God is calling us to make disciples and multiply ourselves. The harvest is right before us and it is up to us to decide to go to the harvest or let it rot….Blessings Jeff
